2013 kia optima review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Quiet and refined midsize sedan. introductionthe kia optima is a midsize sedan with a smooth, quiet ride and able driving dynamics. The 2013 kia optima competes with the honda accord, ford fusion, mazda6, toyota camry and hyundai sonata. for 2013, optima carries over largely unchanged, but new features have been added and kia has consolidated the model lineup. all 2013 optima models get a revised kia badge on the hood, trunk and steering wheel, as well as a new sliding front headrest. Last redesigned for the 2011 model year, optima still looks contemporary. This engine is short on excitement, but it's fine for most drivers. Quiet at highway cruising speeds, it delivers enough power to keep up with fast traffic on the freeways, while delivering an epa-estimated 24/35 mpg city/highway. All 2013 optima models come standard with a 6-speed automatic. kia optima sx features a peppy 2. 0-liter turbocharged engine. The turbocharged inline-4 found on the optima sx sweetly carries this sedan into another world. With 274 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, the optima sx boasts first-rate performance, stability and agility. Silky smooth, the turbocharged engine propels the optima sx from 0 to 60 in 6. 5 seconds, quick for this class. Fuel economy suffers a bit compared to the naturally aspirated version, with an epa rating of 22/34 mpg city/highway. The warranty is good for up to 10 years or 150,000 miles. Just fill it with gas and go. efficiency-wise, the hybrid drags optima back into a third world. Its epa estimated mileage is 35/40 miles per gallon. The 6-speed automatic transmission was rough, which we blame on its electronic programming. interior appointments and materials in all optima models are handsome, generous, and of high quality for the class. We found the ride quality compliant over rougher pavement, filtering out harshness, while the suspension accurately communicates smaller bumps and ripples. The chassis is good, and although optima is no performance sedan, its handling has a sporty glimmer. lineupthree trim levels plus a hybrid version comprise the 2013 kia optima lineup. An optional technology package 2,700) adds dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation, an 8-speaker infinity audio system and rearview camera. The convenience package 600) upgrades to an eight-way power driver's seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror with homelink and compass. It comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, heated outside mirrors, front and rear lower bumpers and side sills, a rear spoiler, and led taillamps. Inside, there's an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, electric dual zone automatic temperature control with rear vents, push-button start with smart key, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, fixed rear seats with ski pass-through. As with the sorento and quirky good-natured soul, the optima's design focus is not korean nor even asian. It is a world car like sedans from ford, toyota or honda. Sleek, aggressive and modern, the optima is at ease; it's like a well-tailored italian suit, made in korea. the suit seems a bit tight in the front, though. The optima grille, a sharp-angled chrome bezel surrounding a black mesh screen, arouses opposite opinions. One correspondent called it elegantly simple, comparing it to jaguar and bentley, but most of us think it looks like it came out of an aftermarket catalog. the racy wraparound headlamps, and low wide stance, imply athleticism. The front air dam is low enough to scrape in surprising places for a so-called sedate sedan like this, and gives the nose an aggressive look while helping fuel mileage. Still, the imagery is enticing. interioroptima's interior concedes nothing to its european or american competitors, except for its black plastic trim. The dashboard uses pebble-grain black leather, handsomely stitched with french seams. Instruments use a clear font. It tilts and telescopes, and contains controls for audio, cruise control, phone and a big green button for eco. Heating is optional. the five-passenger seating is excellent, with a full range of adjustability available in the driver's seat. The seats are firm, well-bolstered, and deliver snug lateral support for more vigorous driving. However, the center-rear passenger must ride the camel's hump, and the rear legroom is on the low side of average, at 34. 7 inches. Heated front and rear seating is available, as is front cooling and a cooled glovebox for drinks. the panoramic sunroof, on cars so equipped, is huge, airy and truly bright. When closing it, the sunscreen panel closes automatically. A separate function opens only the screen and tilt roof.

Unique style, unusual value. introductionthe kia sportage is a sporty crossover utility vehicle, conveniently sized and well-executed in almost every way. The 2013 sportage sx gets a respectable 21/28 mpg epa city/highway rating with front-wheel drive and 20/25 mpg with awd. we found the standard 2. 4-liter engine delivers its power smoothly and mostly in a linear manner, with only an occasional, slight surge after an upshift in the automatic as the electronics adjust to the changing load. Those gear changes are clean, if not remarkably sharp, with ready downshifts for overtaking or merging. the steering feels heavier in the awd version but is reasonably responsive in both, with good directional stability. All-wheel drive comes with a limited locking feature for low-speed use in adverse conditions. the 2013 kia sportage is changed only slightly from last year. 2013 sportage models can be distinguished by revised kia badges. Power folding mirrors and sun visor extenders come on all 2013 sportage models. Led accent lights come on 2013 sportage lx and 2013 sportage ex models; the 2013 sportage sx gets led daytime running lights. The 2013 sportage ex is available with a new blue interior package. Sportage was redesigned for the 2011 model year. Some interior features were added for 2012. the styling looks fresh and sharp from every angle. Character lines are crisp but subdued, contrasting nicely with the overall rounded look. Blackened lower trim panels imply good ground clearance while keeping the tires visually in proper proportion to the body. we found the interior accommodations comfortable, though the sportage lacks the interior roominess of its competitors, the honda cr-v, toyota rav4, and subaru forester. The front seats offer good support. Leather-trimmed seats and an air-cooled driver's seat is available. An am/fm/cd/mp3 six-speaker stereo with siriusxm radio comes standard, with a subwoofer and external amplifier optional. An optional navigation system with a touch screen includes a rearview camera, an excellent safety feature. The ex premium package 3,100) includes leather seat trim, heated front seats, air-cooled driver seat, push-button start-stop, upgraded supervision gauge cluster, panoramic sunroof, power-folding heated mirrors, auto-dimming inside mirror with homelink and compass, and a cargo cover. The one remaining factory option for the ex is a no-cost two-tone blue interior with black headliner, which is not available with the premium package or navigation. sportage sx 26,900) and sportage sx awd 28,4000) feature the more powerful turbocharged engine and upgrade to leather seats, supervision gauge cluster, push-button start-stop, and power folding outside mirrors. Special appearance features include a black mesh grille outlined in dark chrome, led daytime running lights, and dual exhausts. Also standard are downhill brake control, which when engaged automatically regulates downhill speed to no more than 5 mph, and hill-start assist control, which keeps the sportage from rolling backward when starting on a hill. The optional rearview camera can help the driver notice small children behind the vehicle when backing up. walkaroundkia sportage styling is unconstrained by cliche or convention. From nose to tail, from footprint to luggage rack, sportage shares almost nothing outside of its overall proportions with more conventionally styled crossovers and mini-suvs. the upper grille is a bigger, bolder rendering of the kia-signature tiger nose. The sx sports its own, subtly different grille, which replaces the delicate horizontal-over-vertical mesh of lesser models with a more rugged chain-link texture; and the bright-chrome surround with chrome of a darker tone. the concaved hood flows smoothly back into the decently raked windshield. The high beltline reduces the real estate available for side windows, making for almost a chopped look, like street rods of the mid-20th century. A creased depression in the lower portion of the door panels breaks up the expanse of sheet metal, thereby lowering the impression of mass. The flat black trim from the front lower fascia continues around the sides, outlining the wheelwells, which the tires fill quite nicely, and underscoring the rocker panels. most of the styling lines on the backside pinch inward, toward, again, the trademark oval parked in the middle of the liftgate. The backlight is about the same proportion to the bodywork as the side windows, i. Taillights narrow as they look toward the centerline. Turn indicators are slotted into the rear bumper, an interesting location that at first blush appears to favor a closely following driver at the expense of one two or three cars back. A creased lip marks the bottom edge of the liftgate, above a license plate space that occupies the middle of the rear bumper where a continuation of the flat black trim panel completes its circumnavigation of the sportage's lower body. Dual exhausts with bold oval openings distinguish the sx. interiorthe kia sportage interior displays as much bold imagination as the exterior, while remaining ergonomically friendly and eye-pleasing. Nothing too fancy or gimmicky, just well crafted and eminently usable. essential instrumentation is easy-to-read analog, with a large, circular dial for the speedometer bracketed by a half-circle.
